The brilliant thing about social media marketing is that its so vast that even if you think you understand everything about it, you can still learn more by bringing people together and discussing it. Such was my weekend that kicked off with an OwenBloggers BrainJam including C.C. Chapman and 25 other media, entertainment and marketing MBA students here at Owen.
The conversation spanned everything from adoption of new technologies to the challenges of articulating marketing ROI to corporate executives. Saying this was my element is an understatement.
The most exciting part of the entire conversation was the buzz created not during the BrainJam, but afterwards. I had other MBA students, that didn’t even attend the event, coming up and asking about being included in future conversations and how they can learn more about how social media is affecting mainstream marketing.
The weekend also featured a barrage of questions and coverage opportunities for OwenBloggers as Owen played host to another Discover Weekend for prospective students. It’s only now that I have enough of my academic workload completed that I can get down to much needed updates to the OwenBloggers and Marketing Diner homepages.
When it comes down to it, its exhausting when you think about how many people you can reach out to when you participate in social media like this. Then again, it’s not the hit counts and its not the technology that drives my interest as much as it is the potential to break new ground almost daily by pushing mainstream and social media marketing together.
PS - you can see more photos of the BrainJam here.
